How You Can Help
There are many ways you can help your local animal welfare
community. The four most common ways are to adopt, donate,
foster, and volunteer. Your help is much needed in shelters
and rescue groups across the Valley, so take a look below to
learn how you can lend a helping hand.
Adopt
Over 100,000 animals enter into Maricopa County each year.
This leaves thousands of animals in need of new loving and
caring homes. If you have room in your heart and home for a
new family member, considering adopting a new pet! Click here to see animals currently available for adoption.
Donate
Donating might be the easiest way to help out your local
animal welfare community. Cash donations are always very much
appreciated, however, there are many other items you can
donate as well. Things like:
- dog/cat food
- blankets
- towels
- toys
- unscented cat litter
- treats
|
- laundry soap
- bleach
- dog/cat kennels
- leashes
- flea and tick prevention
- collars

Foster
Opening up your heart and your home is a very rewarding
experience. Many animals just need a little extra attention
before going up for adoption. Things like injuries, sickness,
shyness, and even animals who could use a break from shelter
life are all candidates for foster homes. The most common
types of animals who need foster homes are dogs and cats with
upper respiratory infections (which is similar to the common
cold) and puppies and kittens who are under 8 weeks of age.
Foster parents can spend anywhere from 1 day to many months
with an animal, depending on the animals needs. Every
organization's foster program is run differently, so
check out a variety of places to see where you fit best.

Volunteer
Animal welfare organizations across the valley could use your
help! They need people to spend time with their dogs and
cats. This could involve anything from walking, playing,
grooming, bathing, to just plain old loving on. If your more
of a people person, then you might be able to help with
adoption counseling- matching potential adopters with new
pets. Our partners also need help with office assistance, in
their thrift stores, transporting animals, etc. View Maddie's Pet Rescue Partner's websites to find out more about
volunteering with that particular organization.
