January 2009

Welcome to the new homepage for CommonPaws.org!

Stop by our "Play Time" page to play Name that Breed,  or complete a puzzle, or even test your knowledge on Maricopa County's animal welfare system.  Take a look at our "Adopt a Pet" page to see all the cute and cuddly animals waiting to be your new best friend!

You can also find ways you can get involved in your animal welfare community, learn about low-cost spay neuter options for your pets, and read a few testimonials from people like you who have already found their new best friends.

If at any time you have any questions, feel free to contact us!

Volunteer Today!Volunteer at the Maddie's Projects Adoption Center
Whether you are a “dog-person” a “cat-person” or a “people-person”, we could use your help.

The Maddie’s Projects Adoption Center, located inside PETCO in north Gilbert is a wonderful place for you to donate your time and talents. From walking dogs to socializing cats to assisting families who are looking for a new pet, the tasks that we need help with, tasks that would directly impact the well-being of the pets in our care, are endless. For more information about the Maddie's Projects Adoption Center, click here.

Interested in volunteering at the Maddie’s Projects Adoption Center? Well, we’d love to have you! Further details about becoming a Maddie’s Projects Adoption Center volunteer to come in early 2009, please contact us for more information.

  1. Dog/Cat Socializer Volunteer
Do you love playing with puppies and kitties? Have a passion for playing fetch, giving belly rubs, and taking long walks. Do you prefer to sit quietly with a book while a feline friend naps in your lap? If you like the sound of giving a little extra tender-loving-care to dogs and cats at your local animal shelter, then we have just the job for you—become a volunteer! Volunteers are needed across the Valley to help staff care for the animals. Activities can include everything from playing, grooming, bathing, walking, and cleaning.
  2. Administrative Volunteer
Do you have other skills you would like to donate? Perhaps you enjoy administrative work or retail environments. Then why not help out your local Maddie's Pet Rescue Partner by assisting with administrative tasks or helping out at their thrift store.
  3. Match-Making Volunteer
Maybe you love to get out and meet new people or see new places. The Maddie's Pet Rescue Partners also need assistance with helping potential adopters find a new best friend. This position would be wonderful for anyone who enjoys chatting it up with others about, you guessed it, dogs and cats! Also, our Adoption Partners need help with off-site adoption events. This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy Arizona’s great weather while playing with the animals and meeting new people.
  4. Foster Parent
The Maddie’s Pet Rescue Partners are also in need of foster homes. This is a perfect way to give back all from the comfort of your own home. So what exactly is fostering? Many dogs and cats need a little extra attention before they are ready for their forever home. Things like injuries, sickness, shyness, animals who just need a break from shelter life, and even puppies and kittens that are under 8 weeks of age are all candidates for foster homes. Foster parents can spend anywhere from one day to many months with an animal in their home all depending on the needs of the animals. The job of the foster parent is simple- to provide love and care for the animal while preparing him or her for adoption.
