AZARS works to rescue, rehabilitate (when necessary) and place domestic animals into stable homes; to educate the public about the responsibilities of pet ownership in an attempt to alleviate the problem of unwanted pets; and to build public awareness about the human-animal bond and its benefits to society. AAWL/SPCA's shelter facility provides a temporary home for nearly 2,000 dogs and cats every year, offering medical and behavioral treatment for those in need. The mission of AAWL/SPCA is to provide excellent care, protection and loving compassion for the life of the animals entrusted to them and to take a leadership role in promoting humane values for the benefit of all animals and people. MCACC is a full service animal welfare agency with animal care shelters, adoptions, enforcement services and licensing. Each year, MCACC takes in more than 50,000 unwanted or stray animals. MCACC strives to take care of animals and to be proactive and offer programs to prevent problems before they occur. MCACC is a part of Maricopa County but receives minimal funding from the County. The majority of the funds needed to shelter and save the lives of thousands of animals comes from donations, dog licenses, service contracts and program fees.
