Maddie's Pet Rescue Project is a ten-year project that seeks to increase adoptions while decreasing euthanasia. Through a collaboration of adoption guarantee organizations, a traditional shelter, and an animal control agency, Maddie’s Pet Rescue Project is working toward saving every healthy and treatable dog and cat by 2012.

Adoption guarantee organizations are organizations which do not euthanasia healthy or treatable animals. However, animals found to be unhealthy and untreatable may be humanely euthanatized. The adoption guarantee Partners are Almost Home Arizona Boxer Rescue, Animal Rescue Center, Arizona Animal Rescue and Sanctuary, Arizona Animal Welfare League, Foothills Animal Rescue, Helping Animals Live On, Starting Over Animal Rescue, and Sun Valley Animal Shelter.

Traditional shelters are organizations who euthanize healthy, treatable, and unhealthy and untreatable animals. Because of a lack of resources, traditional shelters are often unable to find homes for all healthy and treatable animals in their care and are forced to euthanize for reasons such as lack of space and time. The traditional shelter Partner is the Arizona Humane  Society. *Thanks to Maddie’s Projects, the Arizona Humane Society now guarantees the adoption of all healthy animals.*

Animal control agencies are governmental organizations who place an emphasis on public health and safety, law enforcement, animal regulation, and licensing. Because of a lack of resources, animal control agencies euthanize healthy, treatable, and unhealthy and untreatable for reasons such as lack of space and time. The animal control Partner is Maricopa County Animal Care & Control. *Thanks to Maddie’s Projects, Maricopa County Animal Care & Control now guarantees the adoption of all healthy animals.*

Maddie’s Fund grant monies are distributed as subsidies to participating adoption guarantee organizations. Subsidies are calculated based on each organization's ability to reach established adoption goals. After Year 3 of the project, the traditional shelter and animal control agency were also eligible to receive subsidies based on their ability to surpass established adoption goals.

Each of the Maddie’s Pet Rescue Partners works independently on behalf of the animals in their care and has its own adoption guidelines and procedures. The groups also join together as a coalition to share ideas, strategies, and successes which will help achieve the overall goal where every healthy and treatable dog or cat who finds itself in our shelters will be guaranteed a loving and permanent home by 2012.
