Looking to spay/neuter your pit bull/pit bull mix? Learn how Maddie's can help!
Maddie's Spay/Neuter Project is a ten-year project that seeks to end pet overpopulation and euthanasia of healthy and treatable animals in shelters by providing low-cost spaying and neutering options for dogs and cats in Maricopa County. By reducing the number of unplanned puppies and kittens being born in our community each year, we hope to decrease the number of homeless animals that enter our shelters.
A Maddie's Fund grant reimburses participating veterinarians for spay and neuter surgeries they perform as part of the program. The Project offers low-cost sterilization for cats and dogs belonging to low-income residents (AHCCCS recipients) of Maricopa County. Qualifying AHCCCS recipients are asked to pay a maximum co-payment of only $10/cat surgery and $20/dog surgery (certain restrictions apply).
Because of the particularly high number of pit pulls and pit bull mixes that enter our county's shelters each year, the project also provides special incentives to Maricopa County caregivers of pit bulls and pit bull mixes to have their dogs spayed/neutered. Spay/neuter surgeries for pit bull and pit bull mixes are provided at no cost to the caregiver, and the Project will even mail a $20 check to the dog's caregiver following the surgery (certain restrictions apply).
The Project involves the Arizona Animal Welfare League (lead agency), participating veterinarians and clinics, the Animal Defense League of Arizona's Spay/Neuter Hotline.
